Taste Butte County

Restaurants

Dining in Butte County is savoring braised pork shank raised on one of the country’s final remaining Mexican land grant farms only miles away. Or relishing a hand-made burger and a frosty local beer on a sun-drenched patio. From fine dining to wine rooms, pubs and breakfast joints, Butte County serves up food and drink that reflects the unique flavors of one of California’s most fertile regions.

Breweries

Butte County took its prominent place on the international beer map when a man named Ken Grossman launched a revolution in American craft brewing from his Chico brewery: Sierra Nevada Brewing. Sierra Nevada still holds its place as the iconic West Coast craft brewery, but Butte County visitors can sample new flavors at small nanobreweries, taphouses and craft beer bars throughout the county.

Locally Grown

Butte County’s deep agricultural roots reach back to the earliest innovations in California farming. Chico Founder, John Bidwell, is known as “a founding father of modern California agriculture.” Today, large and small farms carry on the legacy of quality and innovation that has existed in Butte County for more than 100 years, producing some of the state’s best olive oils, fruit, rice and nuts — and opening their doors for visitors to taste and experience Butte County agriculture.

Wineries

A growing craft wine scene is emerging in Butte County with urban wineries, small estate vineyards and innovative new vintners cropping up across the region. Taste the flavors of Butte County wines from Oroville to Durham and downtown Chico.
