A Brief His­to­ry of Maisie Jane’s Cal­i­for­nia Sun­shine Products

Maisie Jane Hur­ta­do was born into Bertagna fam­i­ly, which has been grow­ing almonds in Butte Coun­ty for four gen­er­a­tions. Maisie Jane began exper­i­ment­ing with almond roast­ing in her teens. She start­ed the busi­ness as a Future Farm­ers of Amer­i­ca project in high school, which grew into a thriv­ing busi­ness of spe­cial­ty roast­ed and fla­vored nuts and nut but­ter under the icon­ic Maisie Jane’s brand.

All of this can be expe­ri­enced at the company’s home­town store­front in Chico, where the Bertagna family’s almond farm­ing lega­cy lives in earth- and bee-friend­ly prod­ucts grown in Butte County’s fer­tile farmland.
