Tucked along the south­east­ern shores of Lake Oroville, Loafer Creek Recre­ation Area fea­tures a mas­sive camp­ground with 137 shad­ed sites for tents and RVs (up to 40 feet, no hookups).

It’s a prime spot for water lovers, boast­ing the lake’s only ded­i­cat­ed swim­ming beach, an 8‑lane boat launch, coin-oper­at­ed show­ers, and miles of mul­ti-use trails.

  • Dog Pol­i­cy: Leashed dogs are wel­come (except on the beach/​turf).

Loafer Creek Eques­tri­an Campground

Wide­ly con­sid­ered one of the best horse camps in the region, the Loafer Creek facil­i­ty fea­tures 15 camp­sites built specif­i­cal­ly for eques­tri­an use.

Each site hosts up to 8 peo­ple, 2 hors­es, and 2 vehi­cles, offer­ing pipe cor­rals, a wash sta­tion, a warm-up pen, and direct access to the 17.5‑mile Loafer Creek Loop Trail.

  • Reser­va­tions: Peak sea­son reser­va­tions run April 1 – Octo­ber 15 via Reserve Cal­i­for­nia (up to 6 months in advance of arrival date); the rest of the year is first-come, first-served.
  • Camp­ing Fees: Vary by sea­son ($25 — $45/​night)
