Tucked along the southeastern shores of Lake Oroville, Loafer Creek Recreation Area features a massive campground with 137 shaded sites for tents and RVs (up to 40 feet, no hookups).
It’s a prime spot for water lovers, boasting the lake’s only dedicated swimming beach, an 8‑lane boat launch, coin-operated showers, and miles of multi-use trails.
- Dog Policy: Leashed dogs are welcome (except on the beach/turf).

Loafer Creek Equestrian Campground
Widely considered one of the best horse camps in the region, the Loafer Creek facility features 15 campsites built specifically for equestrian use.
Each site hosts up to 8 people, 2 horses, and 2 vehicles, offering pipe corrals, a wash station, a warm-up pen, and direct access to the 17.5‑mile Loafer Creek Loop Trail.
- Reservations: Peak season reservations run April 1 – October 15 via Reserve California (up to 6 months in advance of arrival date); the rest of the year is first-come, first-served.
- Camping Fees: Vary by season ($25 — $45/night)
