6 Fun October Activities in Butte County

Down­town Chico trans­forms into a vibrant can­vas of art, music, and com­mu­ni­ty cel­e­bra­tion dur­ing the month-long ARTo­ber FEST.

It kicks off with the annu­al Art & Wine Walk on Fri­day, Octo­ber 9, 2026. Stroll through down­town shops, sam­ple pours from local winer­ies, and meet the cre­ators behind the work.

Gallery stops, live acoustic sets, and pop-up cre­ative events keep the par­ty going all month long.

Dat­ing back to 1888, John­ny Apple­seed Days holds the title as the old­est har­vest fes­ti­val in Cal­i­for­nia. The two-day com­mu­ni­ty tra­di­tion in Par­adise cel­e­brates the deep agri­cul­tur­al roots of the area.

• Tasty Tra­di­tions: Treat your­self to home­made apple pie served with scoops of ice cream along with fresh-picked apples from Noble Orchards, Paradise’s last remain­ing apple orchard.

Chico Okto­ber­fest at The Barn at Meri­am Park

• Tick­ets: $36.50
• Activ­i­ties: Throw on your leder­ho­sen or dirndl and jump into the beer stein hold­ing con­test, cos­tume com­pe­ti­tions, or lawn games with friends.

Head to The Barn at Meri­am Park for an evening of cold beer, warm soft pret­zels, and tra­di­tion­al oom­pah music.

Chico State Din­ing Ser­vices will be serv­ing up authen­tic Ger­man bratwurst and sauer­kraut, with local taps fea­tur­ing sea­son­al pours from Sier­ra Neva­da, Farm­ers Brew­ing, and Ram­ble West. Ciders, wines, and non-alco­holic choic­es are also ready to pour.
